# Quickstart

> Install the app, create your first rule, test it and make it live.

This guide walks you through a complete first rule: blocking addresses that have no house number.

## Before you start

* You need a Shopify store and permission to install apps.
* Have a second browser window ready so you can place a test checkout.

**1. Install the app**

Install **Codebeans Checkout Rules** from the Shopify App Store and approve the permissions it asks for. When you first open the app, Shopify asks you to choose a plan. See [Plans](https://codebeans-cb-checkout-rules.mintlify.site/help/plans.md) to compare what each plan includes.

**2. Add a rule**

On the app's **Home** page, click **Add new rule**. A list of rules opens.

Choose **Missing House Number**.

**3. Set where the rule applies**

* Under **Validate in**, keep **All countries**, or choose **Specific countries** and select the countries this rule is for.
* Under the second **Validate in**, tick **Shipping address**, **Billing address** or both.

**4. Write the error message**

Under **Message to display**, enter what customers see when they break the rule. For example:

```text theme={null}
Please add your house or building number to the address.
```

The English message is required. If your store has more languages, you can add a message for each one. See [Error messages and languages](https://codebeans-cb-checkout-rules.mintlify.site/rules/error-messages-and-languages.md).

**5. Choose Testing and save**

In the **Rule status** card, choose **Testing**, then click **Save**.

In Testing, the rule only runs for checkouts that use the email `test@gmail.com`. Your real customers are not affected.

**6. Place a test checkout**

1. Open your online store, add any product to the cart and go to checkout.
2. Enter `test@gmail.com` as the email.
3. Enter an address with no number in **Address line 1**, for example `Main Street`.
4. Fill in every other required field and continue.

The checkout stops and your message appears next to **Address line 1**. Add a number to the address and the checkout continues.

> [!TIP]
>
> Rules that check the shipping address run once all the required address fields are filled in and the shipping options appear. If you don't see the message yet, finish the address first.

**7. Go live**

Open the rule again, choose **Active** and click **Save**. The rule now runs for every customer.
